Iolanthe

The Yale Gilbert and Sullivan Society's 2010 Fall Mainstage

by W.S. Gilbert and Sir Arthur Sullivan

Poster of Iolanthe

The fairy Iolanthe has been living in exile for 25 years, ever since she was banished by the Queen of the Fairies for having dared to marry a mortal. Now, the Queen welcomes Iolanthe back into the fold, only to learn that the delinquent fairy has a 25-year-old half-mortal son who’s getting himself into trouble with the members of the English House of Lords.A satire about the conflicting laws of love and politics, Iolanthe is one of Gilbert & Sullivan’s best-loved collaborations. You can read more about Iolanthe at the Gilbert and Sullivan Archive.
