Rock, Paper, Scissors

by Jackie Ferro and Emily Murphy

Does paper really beat rock?

Based on the classic game Rock, Paper, Scissors, this film explores an important and timely question: does paper really beat rock? It is also a fencing drama. Three friends (Ross, Payson, and Skylar) on the Varsity fencing team come into conflict when Ross lies to Payson – he tells her she's better than him at fencing – to boost her spirits before nationals. The lie spirals out of control over the course of several months, culminating in an intense fencing showdown, and it's up to Skylar to put their broken friendships back together.

On the heels of Battleship and the Angry Birds movie, and with everything from a Fruit Ninja feature to a US-China co-production of a Tetris adaptation on the horizon (these are both real things), Rock, Paper, Scissors taps into the inevitable future of cinema: movies based on games. There is perhaps no game more pervasive nor no film more inevitable than Rock, Paper, Scissors.
