Speak Truth to Power: Voices from Beyond the Dark is a play written by the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Ariel Dorfman under the auspices of the Robert F Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights. The performance is based on interviews with human rights activists around the world and tells their stories of courage and determination to fight gross human rights violations. In the play, eight voices chronicle the stories of 42 human rights advocates from places as diverse as Mexico, Burma, India, and the United States, while two characters representing repressive powers and apathetic onlookers dramatize their opposition. The play was first presented at the Kennedy Center in 2000 and has since been performed around the world by actors such as Kevin Kline, Sigourney Weaver and Alec Baldwin.
